Emotional Support - How Your Metabolism Can Be a Nightmare

Losing weight and struggling with a slow metabolism can be a mind-boggling experience. Several factors play a part that could cause your metabolism to be sluggish such as thyroid problems, resistance to insulin, stress and toxins in your body, after effects of a hysterectomy and also going through menopause.  Get yourself checked out with your physician first and if you do not have those problems, then perhaps you should focus on making a lifestyle change in your eating habits which could be the basis of your problem.  Making up your mind to lose weight requires major adjustments in your life. Emotional support from a friend or family member helps in giving you the incentives to reach your weight loss goal.

A poor diet would be the main reason for a sluggish metabolism.  It could cause a person to gain weight because they eat foods that do not generate body heat that turns the food to energy.  In order to increase your metabolism you have to change your daily eating habits by eating foods that are high in complex carbohydrates, fiber, and vitamins.

For those who have a slow metabolism cutting calories is actually not a good idea if they are trying to lose weight. In fact, doing so will make their metabolism even slower because the body thinks that it needs to store energy for later.  By changing the type and amount of calories you eat from bad choices to healthy and nutritious foods, the body will consistently increase its metabolism.

Another way to boost your metabolism is to get regular daily exercise.  It does not have to be strenuous. It could be as simple as walking three to four times a week.  Get a friend to walk with you and make it fun.

After putting all of these factors together you will find that understanding how your metabolism works is not a nightmare after all.

Though I found your article interesting, I feel that you left something of importance out (unless I completely missed it). Before starting any lifestyle changes, you should really sit down and talk to your primary physician about all of your health issues so that he/she can order the proper blood work to be performed. By talking to my doctor and getting the right blood tests done, I found out that I have Type II Diabetes. I also spoke to a nutritionist who helped me to see that I can eat the right foods for me (which could be different for someone else) and still be satisfied.

I also don't believe that a poor diet is the "main" reason for a sluggish metabolism. However, I do believe it is a contributing factor. I believe also that if one is suffering with depression and is on medication, the medication could quite possibly be a reason for weight gain. This is something that should be discussed with a physician. It's quite possible that a different medication that helps to curb depression or anxiety won't have the side effect of weight gain.

As far as exercise is concerned, I'm in complete agreement about that. In addition to walking with a friend, include your children and/or grandchildren. Not only will you all get fit together, but you will be spending wonderful time with your family.

Something else that we as women need to do is to take time out for ourselves so that we can rejuvenate. One way to relax and release toxins from your body is to have a full body massage. Follow the massage up with plenty of water and you will flush the toxins out.

The best thing we can do is to just love and take care of ourselves.
